Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We've got answers. Browse our most common inquiries below.
What training methods do you use?
We strictly adhere to LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) principles and primarily use positive reinforcement. We reward good behaviors with treats, toys, or praise rather than punishing bad behaviors.
How old does my puppy need to be to start training?
Puppies can begin our Puppy Fundamentals class as early as 8 weeks old, provided they have received their first round of standard vaccinations at least 7 days prior to class.
What vaccinations are required?
For the safety of all dogs, we require proof of Rabies, DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza), and Bordetella vaccinations prior to attending any group classes.
My dog is reactive or aggressive. Can we still join a group class?
For the safety and comfort of everyone, dogs with severe reactivity or aggression histories are not permitted in group classes. Instead, we offer private Behavior Modification sessions tailored specifically to address these challenges.
Do I need to use treats forever?
Not at all! We use treats heavily in the beginning to establish the behavior. Once a behavior is learned and generalized, we teach you how to "fade the lure" and replace food rewards with real-life rewards (like going outside, getting a toy, or receiving praise).
How many dogs are in a group class?
We keep our class sizes small to ensure everyone gets individual attention. Group classes are capped at 6 dogs per instructor.
Can children attend the training sessions?
Yes! We encourage the whole family to participate, as consistency across family members is key to successful dog training. We kindly ask that children under 10 be accompanied by a second adult who is not handling the dog.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring a standard 4-6 foot leash (no retractable leashes), a flat collar or well-fitted harness, plenty of high-value soft treats, and a favorite toy.
